ABOUT KELLY

I love to write, go for walks with friends, create and work in my perennial gardens, watch movies, go camping, travel, laugh and enjoy life with my friends and family.

I graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1988 with a Bachelor's degree in Communication and Theater Arts. I intended to use my degree to teach writing and media (i.e., tv) production at the high school level, but after crying through my first week of student teaching, I made a difficult decision to graduate without my teaching certification.

Finding a job was difficult, so I took a temporary entry level position at a sheltered workshop working in mental health. Unexpectedly, the position evolved until I became a Case Manager and gained 7 very rewarding years experience in the mental health field.

I married my husband, Dave, on November 16, 1991. I think we've experienced every emotion possible toward each other, and through it, we've grown to love and appreciate each other even more deeply. I'm blessed to have him in my life.

When our first child was born in 1994, I left the 'working' world to be a stay at home mom...and really start working. We eventually had 3 kids, and once they were all in school full time, in 2004, I began a serious search for a publisher for a book I had written, Life Beyond the Scars, about finding peace in a dysfunctional world. Through a surprising turn of events, Silas Publishing was interested in publishing my book, but ended up not being able to. Instead, they offered me a position as Program Director for a new ministry they were starting, CarePoint, where I would be involved in developing and designing workbooks and topics, editing all the workbooks and writing some of them. It was an amazing opportunity and fulfillment of a dream that was even bigger than I had dreamt. I began the position in early 2005, and we released our first 6 workbooks April 1, 2006.
